It’s only words...

Picasso Quote…artwork by Carolyn J Roberts

…but it’s fascinating how just a few words can speak volumes isn’t it? I posted this image on Instagram a couple of weeks ago and it had a big response; it really seemed to strike a chord with lots of people. I admit to having a bit of a love/hate relationship with Picasso, but this quote just encapsulates the way I want to feel when drawing or painting…

I was intrigued to know what quotes, art or non-art related, others find inspirational, or to have a special meaning for them. Here’s what people responded with:

  • “To create one’s own world takes courage.” - Georgia O’Keeffe

  • “Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while one is working.” - Henri Matisse

  • “I would like to paint the way a bird sings.” - Claude Monet

  • “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got…” _ Henry Ford/Marian Diamond(?)

  • “A beautiful body perishes but a work of art dies not.” - Leonarda da Vinci

  • “Skate away on the thin ice of a new day.” - (?)

  • “If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if I create from the head, almost nothing.” - Marc Chagall

And one that struck a real chord with me…

The transition from painter to artist comes when you cross the line of painting what you see, to painting what you feel about what you see.
— T. Allen Lawson - American, Winter's Dawn, 2012

What’s your favourite quote? Do let me know, I can add it to my inspiration board!!

Until next time,

Carolyn
