Original abstract landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts
A small, expressive study — intimate in scale, expansive in spirit
The uplands of the Peak District unfold here in miniature — a landscape shaped by wind, weather, and long-held time. Fast-moving clouds sweep across the moors, their shadows skimming the land; gritstone edges rise through heather and grass, surfaces etched and softened by centuries of rain and air.
Though modest in size, the painting carries the restless energy of the high moors — that sense of openness where light shifts quickly, storms pass without warning, and the land seems always in motion. Layers of watercolour, acrylic ink and textured mark-making echo the rhythms of cloud, stone, and wind moving across the ridgelines.
It is a piece that invites a closer, quieter look — a distilled moment of wild landscape, held gently, like a memory gathered from a walk along the edges.
