Snow softens the ground, muting colour and sound, while pale light drifts across stone and autumnal ferns. Against this quiet, the faintest traces appear — delicate rabbit tracks crossing the surface, brief marks of movement in an otherwise timeless landscape.

Inspired by winter days in the Peak District, this small mixed media painting explores the contrast between endurance and ephemerality: land shaped over millennia, and the fleeting presence of life moving through it. Cool, subdued tones are gently warmed by touches of bronze and soft gold, echoing grasses and seed heads caught beneath frost and snow.

Built through layered watercolour, ink and mixed media, the surface holds subtle shifts and textures — suggestions of compacted snow, weathered rock, and paths momentarily revealed before disappearing again. It is a painting about noticing: the beauty of small signs, and the quiet poetry of winter passing.
