Original artwork by Carolyn J Roberts
An intimate original capturing the raw pull of wind and sea along the Cornish coast
Inspired by the raging elements of wind and sea battering the coastline, this piece reflects moments of helpless witnessing — watching as sand, seaweed, driftwood, and shells are gathered up and carried away by swirling water. What is solid one moment is loosened the next, surrendered to the tide.
Rooted in the wild Cornish coast, the work explores that uneasy balance between force and fragility. Layered washes and expressive marks suggest erosion, pull, and relentless motion, while softer passages hint at what lingers briefly before being taken again. The surface holds traces of disruption and flow, shaped by weather and time.
Small and intimate in scale, the piece invites close attention. Designed to be encountered quietly, it holds the raw energy of the coast in miniature — a fleeting moment of power and impermanence, gathered and held within the frame.
