Original artwork by Carolyn J Roberts

A small original holding the vastness of the coast in miniature

Gathering pace across miles of open ocean, the wind blows onto the coastline — charged with salt and weather — before finally fading, spent, into a gentler presence. What was once force becomes a whisper, moving softly through gorse and grass, carrying the memory of the sea inland.

Inspired by the Cornish coast, this intimate mixed media piece reflects the shifting energy of the landscape: the contrast between raw exposure and quiet shelter, between power and pause. Layered washes and expressive marks echo the movement of wind and tide, while subtle textures suggest traces left behind — bent stems, scoured rock, the hush that follows a storm.

Though small in scale, the work holds a sense of distance and movement within it. Designed to be encountered up close, it invites slow looking and quiet attention, offering a moment of coastal intensity held in miniature — a reminder of the vastness beyond the frame.
