Original abstract landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts
Where the quiet of the land is broken by a sharper note.
Even within a quiet landscape, there can be moments of discord — a sudden sound, a shift in the weather, or something that unsettles the stillness. Discordant Cries explores this tension, bringing together softer, muted colours with marks and fragments that interrupt the calm.
Pale blues, hints of mauve and soft greens form the foundation of the palette, while flecks of brown ink introduce darker accents and a little visual disruption. Working with watercolour, acrylic ink, watercolour pencil and collage, I have built up layers of colour, line and texture. Washes of colour merge and soften, while the more definite marks and fragmented shapes create contrasts across the surface.
Rather than describing a particular place, the painting offers an impression of landscape shaped by shifting moods and fleeting moments — where harmony and disruption exist side by side.
A small original mixed media landscape painting with a thoughtful, slightly unsettled character, Discordant Cries invites a closer look at the details that emerge from the quieter spaces of the land.
