Original abstract landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts
Where cool light and open spaces meet.
There is a particular stillness to a landscape touched by cold air, when the light feels pale and the spaces between things seem just as important as the land itself. Frosted Wind explores this sense of openness, with areas of softer colour set against quieter passages of white space, allowing the painting room to breathe.
Pale blues, hints of mauve and soft greens form a muted palette, while small flecks of brown ink introduce subtle contrasts across the surface. Working with watercolour, acrylic ink, watercolour pencil and collage, I have built up layers of colour, line and fragmented texture, leaving areas of the paper visible between them. These quieter spaces create a sense of distance and atmosphere, suggesting a landscape glimpsed through cool, shifting air.
Rather than describing a particular view, the painting captures an impression of the land in a moment of quiet transition — open, restrained and touched by the suggestion of winter.
A small original mixed media landscape painting with a spacious, contemplative quality, Frosted Wind invites a slower kind of looking, where what is left unmarked can be as expressive as the marks themselves.
