Storm Herald

£45.00

Original abstract landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts

Where the sky gathers itself before the storm.

There are moments when the landscape seems to sense a change in the weather before the storm itself arrives. The light deepens, the sky darkens and a feeling of anticipation settles over the land. Storm Herald explores this unsettled moment, when the weather is on the turn and the landscape seems poised between stillness and movement.

Stronger blues and indigo give the painting a deeper, more dramatic quality, balanced by softer greens, pale hints of mauve and flecks of brown ink. Working with watercolour, acrylic ink, watercolour pencil and collage, I have built up layers of colour, line and fragmented texture. Darker marks gather against softer washes, creating contrasts that suggest the shifting weight of cloud and the changing light across the land.

Rather than depicting a particular place or a storm in full force, the painting captures the feeling of what is approaching — that fleeting moment when the atmosphere changes and the familiar landscape takes on a different character.

A small original mixed media landscape painting with a more dramatic, expressive presence, Storm Herald reflects the restless beauty of the land beneath a gathering sky.
