Original abstract landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts
Where the wildness of the land meets a shifting sky.
There is an untamed quality to the open moorland, where the land seems to stretch beyond the edge of what we can see and the sky is never quite still. Whisper Over The Edge explores this sense of openness and uncertainty, where darker colours gather against softer washes and small flashes of light interrupt the changing landscape.
Deep blue and indigo mingle with mauve, while a pale green wash and touches of orange bring contrasting notes of colour to the surface. Working with watercolour, sepia acrylic ink and white Posca pen, I have built up layers of expressive marks, washes and lines. The white pen introduces sharper details against the darker passages, while the sepia ink adds depth and movement, creating a balance between softer, atmospheric areas and more energetic gestures.
Rather than depicting a particular place, the painting offers an impression of the moorland's changing moods — a landscape that feels both expansive and elusive, familiar yet always capable of surprising us.
A small original landscape painting with a lively, atmospheric character, Whisper Over The Edge reflects the wildness of the land and those fleeting moments when colour, weather and feeling seem to converge.
