There was a particular spot by the river that became something of a sanctuary for me — a place to sit quietly, coffee in hand, watching the landscape shift with the seasons. The water moved at its own steady pace, carrying light, sound, and stories downstream. And just beside my perch, year after year, a familiar cluster of reeds would slowly emerge from the shallows.

At first they were barely noticeable, slim shadows beneath the surface. But as the days lengthened, they would begin their graceful ascent, rising into the light and catching the breeze as if greeting the world anew. I loved watching them sway and dance with the current, their movements slow, assured, and utterly mesmerising — a gentle reminder of time passing in a rhythm far older than my own.

And then, just as quietly, they would retreat again. One day I’d look up and realise they were gone, folded back into the river’s depths until the next cycle began. Their comings and goings became a kind of marker for my own seasons — a reassuring presence that held its own small magic.
