An atmospheric mixed-media landscape inspired by the openness of the North Norfolk coast.
There is a particular feeling to being out in the open coastal marshes of North Norfolk, where land and water seem to merge into one another and the sky stretches away into the distance. It is a landscape that invites you to pause, to look a little longer, and to notice the subtle shifts in colour and atmosphere.
In this expressive mixed-media painting, washes of blue-grey, sepia and muted green-brown mingle with darker, more defined marks. Suggestions of land and water emerge and dissolve across the paper, while areas left untouched allow space for the eye to wander and the imagination to fill in the gaps.
Working with watercolour, acrylic ink and oil pastel on hot-pressed Arches paper, I've explored the feeling of being in this open landscape rather than attempting to capture a particular view.
