Abstract, mixed media landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts
Where land and air move in quiet, elemental rhythm.
An expressive small work inspired by the ever-changing landscape of the Isle of Skye — where weather, light, and land exist in constant dialogue. Land & Breath reflects that subtle, shifting moment when the landscape seems to inhale and exhale beneath a moving sky, the hills softening and re-emerging as cloud and light pass over them.
Created through oil paint monoprint and collage, the surface holds a tactile, layered quality that echoes both the solidity of the land and the fluidity of the atmosphere. Gentle tonal shifts suggest distant forms — ridgelines half-seen, slopes dissolving into mist — while more defined marks anchor the composition, grounding it in the quiet strength of the terrain.
There is a sense of pause within the piece — a moment suspended between movement and stillness. It speaks of space, of air, and of that deep, instinctive connection to landscape where breath slows and awareness sharpens.
