The Shape of Weather

£80.00

Abstract, mixed media landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts

Where weather leaves its traces across land, water, and sky.

An expressive small work inspired by the shifting atmosphere of the Isle of Skye — where cloud, rain, and sea mist continually reshape the appearance of the landscape. The Shape of Weather explores those subtle transitions and fleeting formations that emerge within changing light and moving air.

Created using oil paint monoprint on archival tissue paper, the piece is layered almost entirely in shades of blue, allowing tone, texture, and mark-making to take centre stage. Delicate gradations and gestural marks invite the viewer to look closely, revealing shapes that emerge gradually through the surface — echoes of distant hills, water reflections, drifting cloud, and weather-worn shoreline.

The fragility of the tissue paper adds to the atmospheric quality of the work, creating a sense of softness and impermanence that mirrors the transient nature of weather itself. Though small in scale, the piece holds depth and quiet complexity, encouraging a slower, more contemplative viewing experience.
