In the Wake of the Weather

£95.00

Abstract, mixed media landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts

Where tide, cliff, and weather leave their traces upon the land.

An expressive small work inspired by the Isle of Skye — capturing the shifting atmosphere that lingers after weather has moved through the landscape. In the Wake of the Weather reflects those moments when rainclouds begin to drift away, leaving softened light across the shoreline, darkened cliffs, and tidal water still carrying the memory of the storm.

Created using monoprint and oil paint on paper, the surface is layered with textured marks and tonal variations that echo the rugged character of Skye’s coastline. Darker forms suggest rocky outcrops and distant cliffs rising from the edge of the sea, while softer marks move through the composition like rivulets left behind by the retreating tide.

There is both movement and stillness within the piece — a sense of weather having passed through, reshaping the mood of the landscape in its wake. The interplay between textured passages and softer open spaces evokes the constant dialogue between land, water, and sky that defines the western coastlines of Scotland.
