Held in Cloud

£70.00

Abstract, mixed media landscape painting by Carolyn J Roberts

Where colour, weather, and landscape soften into atmosphere.

An expressive small work inspired by the shifting landscapes of the Isle of Skye — where hills disappear into drifting cloud and changing light transforms the colours of the land. Held in Cloud captures that sense of immersion within weather, where forms become softened and the landscape is felt as much through atmosphere and colour as through detail.

Created using oil paint monoprint on paper, the surface is built through layered tones, graded passages, and expressive gestural marks that echo the movement and energy of the landscape. Richer colours emerge here than in some of the quieter works within the collection, reflecting the subtle ochres and blue-grey tones often found across Skye’s hills, moorland, and shoreline.

The layered composition allows forms to appear and recede gently, suggesting passing weather and echoes of land held within cloud. There is both movement and stillness within the piece — a sense of the landscape dissolving and reforming beneath shifting skies.
