An intimate artist’s sketchbook inspired by the rugged coastal landscapes of the Isle of Skye — where Atlantic weather, sea-worn cliffs, and vast skies continually reshape the atmosphere of the land. Atlantic Edge captures a series of fleeting responses to this elemental landscape, gathered through colour, gesture, and layered mark-making.
Created within an Etchr concertina sketchbook, the work contains approximately 36 painted surfaces of original artwork, each developed using watercolour on beautifully textured cold pressed paper. Fluid washes and expressive passages move across the pages like shifting weather systems, suggesting distant ridgelines, tidal edges, rain-softened skies, and reflections held within water and stone.
Viewed individually, each section offers a small atmospheric study; unfolded as a whole, the sketchbook becomes a continuous landscape journey — a flowing visual response to Skye’s wild edges and changing light.
There is a sense of movement and immersion throughout the work, reflecting the instinctive nature of sketchbook practice itself: responsive, exploratory, and closely tied to the experience of place. The concertina format allows the landscape to expand gradually, inviting slow looking and quiet discovery.
